- リズムは古代ギリシャに生まれた概念で、ῥυθμός - rhythmos(リュトモス)を語源とする。リュトモスは古代ギリシャ語では物の姿、形を示すのに一般的に用いられた語で、たとえば「αという文字とβという文字ではリュトモス(形)が違う」というように用いられた。
- 時間軸の中に人間に知覚されるような2つの点を近接して置くと、2点間の時間に長さを感じるようになるが、その「長さ」をいくつか順次並べたものをリズムという。律動(りつどう)と訳される。
