- 筋肉(きんにく、羅: musculus; 独: Muskel; 仏, 英: muscle)は、動物の持つ組織のひとつで、収縮することにより力を発生させる、代表的な運動器官である。
- 動物の運動は、主として筋肉によってもたらされる。ただし、細部に於ける繊毛や鞭毛による運動等、若干の例外はある。 なお、筋肉が収縮することにより発生する力を筋力と呼び、これは収縮する筋肉の断面積に比例する。
- また、食用に供する食肉は主に筋肉であり、脊髄動物の骨格筋は湿重量の約20%をタンパク質が占め、主にこれを栄養として摂取するために食される。
- 中医学では肌肉とも言われる。
